The 1-week camp entitled Des atomes aux ordinateurs, à la découverte de la programmation scientifique is open to teenagers in the last two years of high-school, with no high-level in maths or physics prerequisite. A prior knowledge of the basics of programming is recommended. It is possible to acquire these notions independently if necessary (within 3-4 hours). Half of the seats are reserved for young women. In 2024, it will take place from 24 to 28 June at EPFL. There are still a few places left for girls (online registration as soon as possible).

The MARVEL Junior Seminars aim to intensify interactions between the MARVEL Junior scientists belonging to different research groups – this is held in hybrid mode, in order to maintain in-person contacts and allow off-campus attendees to follow the seminars remotely! We are pleased to propose the 60th MARVEL Junior Seminar: Edan Bainglass and Marnick Bercx (Materials Software and Data Group, PSI) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Sanggyu Chong (Laboratory of computational science and modelling, EPFL).

Bill Jorgensen (Yale University) and Shoshana Wodak (the Flemish Free University of Brussels) will give a joint lecture on "Methods for computational biology and drug discovery", in what will be the tenth event in the series "Classics in molecular and materials modelling" hosted by CECAM and MARVEL.

A lunch event with Shoshana Wodak, a pioneer of computational studies of proteins is organized at EPFL for the female students and postdocs on Tuesday 4 June at 12:15. 

The 2024 CECAM Psi-k research conference will be streamed openly in webinar mode to anyone interested, with no registration required. (Participation is also possible on site at the CECAM headquarters at EPFL upon application – registration now closed).

This MARVEL seminar will be given by Trevor David Rhone, Assistant Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (NY, USA). He will be giving a presentation entitled: "AI guided materials discovery of van der Waals magnets".

We are pleased to propose the 59th MARVEL Junior Seminar: Raymond Amador (nanotech@surfaces, Empa) and Enrico Di Lucente (THEOS, EPFL) will present their research. The seminar will be chaired by Manuel Rudolph (Lab. of quantum information and computation, EPFL).

The 37th NCCR MARVEL Distinguished Lecture will be given by Prof. Massimiliano Di Ventra, University of California, San Diego. He will be presenting a lecture entitled: "MemComputing: when memory becomes a computing tool".

We are pleased to propose the 58th MARVEL Junior Seminar: Marija Stojkovic (THEOS, EPFL) and Gian Gentinetta (CQSL, EPFL) will present their research. 

CECAM and MARVEL present a new event in our Mary Ann Mansigh Conversation series. In a discussion with Nature Physics editor Nina Meinzer and former Nature/Chemistry World news editor Mark Peplow, we will explore how scientific editing and scientific journalism work, how they are being transformed by new technologies, how young scientists can learn to better interact with editors and writers - or become editors and writers themselves. 

The 36th NCCR MARVEL Distinguished Lecture will be given by Prof. Dominika Zgid, University of Michigan. She will be presenting a lecture entitled: "Ab-initio Green’s functions methods for molecules and solids. What accuracy can we reach?" 

On Tuesday April 16, after a 5-year break, with the support of the NCCR MARVEL, EPFL will welcome for the fifth time the Ig Nobel Award Tour Show, with Marc Abrahams and the Ig Nobel Prize winners Chris Moulin, Damien Bouffard and Minna Lyons. We will be talking about people who habitually stay up late, about sexual activity of anchovies, or about repeating a single word many, many, many, many, many, many, many times. A great evening ahead!
